HOW: The slam will hold three preliminary rounds of ten poets in each round; each poet will read two poems, 3-minutes maximum, Poetry Slam, Inc.'s National Poetry Slam rules apply for poems (i.e. your original work, no props, costumes, etc.). Prelims will be held at 7 and 8:30pm Friday and 4:30pm Saturday. Finals will feature the top 3 poets from each preliminary round (so 9 total poets). The Finals commence at 7:30pm, scored cumulatively (within the bout, previous bout scores do NOT carry over) and will be 3 rounds with elimination after each round. OTHER EVENTS: See some of the poets in Omaha Friday afternoon 2-3pm at UNO as well as workshops 12:30-4 Saturday at Gallery 92 West (92 West 6th St., Fremont) and after parties both nights.
Workshops include:
12:30-2pm, Stop flailing awkwardly, presented by Wonder Dave: Stop flailing awkwardly is a series of improvisational acting techniques designed to help spoken word performers improve stage presence. The workshop will focus on vocal texture, energy level and gestures. Although improv is typically associated with comedy both comedic and dramatic performers will benefit from these exercises. Hone your performance skills like a ninja but with improvisational acting instead of throwing stars. Please wear something you can move in comfortably.
2-3:45pm, Workshop TBA by Ed Mabrey.
WHO IS INVITED: All are invited! This event is open to the public. Audience participation is encouraged in assisting our judges in scoring each round. You can attend any bout, any workshop, and come and go as you please.

REGISTRATION PROCEDURES: Thirty poets will perform in the slam. To register, contact Matt Mason at mtmason@gmail.com and sign up. HOTELS: According to information gathered by Ed Mabrey:
Ed's choice (ahem):
Holiday Inn Express- Real FREE Breakfast, Hottub/whirpool, Heated Pool with kiddie area (like acid tripping mushrooms and bridges and planks in the pool area which are dope!), Free wi-fi, Close to food, Nice folks. Last year Klute and I stayed at this spot and simply dug it. The place should be pretty empty and we could enjoy ourselves when not beating each other up with words.
You can reserve your hotel room with the Holiday Inn: Rate is $64 for two queen beds. Call the hotel directly at 402-753-3850 and tell them you want the Great Plains Poetry rate. You have until SEPTEMBER 30 to reserve your room, so don't be a poet and wait till the last minute. Right now we have 20 rooms on hold.
